Notebook: Potato Playmate
May 6 2025. What is this thing? It really appeals to me. I’m not sure why – the silliness, the fun. And its obscurity. The picture’s a placeholder bit of art that came with the Alex Photon demo in the Jevelin theme for WordPress. Nobody’s gonna see it. No one’s going to care. But it gives me a kick. “Potato Playmate”? what? I’m really glad this artist is out there in the world somewhere. I hope they’re doing alright.
Notebook, May 7 2025. “I’m really glad this artist is out there in the world somewhere.” Why? the world feels lighter, hopeful even. I get news from The Economist, The Guardian, Financial Times, AP, etc., texts-voices-video from Lemmy, reddit, chatgpt, deepseek, etc. The graffiti-wall of social-media-mass-communication-networks, the world’s painted there in bold, garish colors, every splat a clickbait smear grabbing at your eyeballs.
Then comes this little lightening bug. Painted in natural colors. Small and low to the ground. Indifferent to the noise. Going on its carefree way – a real bit of joy. There’s something in it that’s more real, more true to what life is, what people and Earth are … bright, hopeful, fun. It makes me want to go out and meet people. haha potato playmate made a friend.
Notebook, May 8 2025. I searched for “potato playmate” on SearchXNG. Nothing in the results about this image. A couple of facething-bookthing links but i never go there. Then on Duck Duck Go. Nothing again, but probably best to have the “adult filter” on.
April 21, 2026. I searched Duck Duck Go again for “potato playmate” and guess what the top result is? This article, the article you’re reading now!! “I’M SOMEBODY!”
